OUR PROPHET, PRIEST AND KING
What does it mean that Christ our Prophet, Priest and King? As High Priest, Christ entered the holiest of
holies (God’s presence) by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption for
God’s elect (Heb 9: 11-12). As Prophet,
Christ preached the gospel as he walked this earth and Christ now preaches through
the preachers that Christ sends (Deut 18: 15-19; Lu 4: 17-21; Heb 12:25). As King, Christ rules all to bring his gospel
to his lost sheep and makes the word effectual in our hearts through the Holy
Spirit—on the day of Pentecost Peter said,
“Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received
of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye
now see and hear” (Acts 2:33). We give Christ
all the glory because it is by our Prophet, Priest and King that we are saved.

“And God is
able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all
sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: being enriched
in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to
God.” (2Co 9:8, 11)

DOES WORSHIP COST ANYTHING?
II Samuel 24:24 “Neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the Lord my God of that
which doth cost me nothing.”
These were the
words of David to Araunah when he had attempted to give David what was
necessary for the sacrifice. This statement has a wide variety of applications.
I would like for us to consider one of these applications. There is an element
of sacrifice involved in public worship. There are some things you forego, and
some things you have to do to prepare yourself for public worship. There
is an effort involved in preparing yourself both physically and spiritually.
There is nothing casual about worshipping God. The idea of adapting any aspect
of worship for convenience is an abomination. If worship costs us nothing, you
can be sure it will not be true worship. We must say with David, “I will not offer
burnt offerings unto the Lord my God of that which doth cost me nothing.” Pastor Todd Nibert

IF GOD WOULD ONLY SAVE A FEW RICH MEN
“For
ye see your calling, brethren, how that not wise men after the flesh, not many
mighty, not many noble are called; But
God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God
hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are
mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God
chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That
no flesh should glory in his presence” (1 Cor 1: 26-29).
Someone
might think, “If God would only save a few more rich men then we could do so
much more in spreading the gospel!” But God
has not chosen many mighty men. He has
chosen to use foolish, weak, base things which are despised by this world. God chose for his Son to come with no form
nor comeliness that would make the wise and mighty naturally desire him. He chose a bloody cross on which Christ laid
down his life to manifest God’s righteousness.
Every time, God calls one of his lost sheep out of
this world through the preaching of the gospel, God has used his nobodies to
bring one who thought he was somebody to nothing. Believer, do you think God needs mighty men? More than once I have seen larger congregations
that never had enough to do more for the cause of Christ. Then I have seen God whittle those
congregations down to a few families and use them do more than ever before. Men choose those who will be most helpful to them. God
chooses those to whom God can be most helpful. By choosing to use such things God makes his
people know that the power is of God, not of us, so that we glory in HIM rather
than ourselves.

FOUR THINGS COMFORT THE CHILD OF GOD IN
TRIALS AND AFFLICTIONS
1. We can
trust the God who appoints them. (1 Thess. 3:3)
2. We can
trust that He knows our frame. (Psalm 103:14)
3. We can
trust that good will always be waiting at the end of the trial. (Romans
8:28)
4. We can
trust that one day soon He will “…stablish your hearts unblameable in
holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ
with all his saints.” (1 Thess. 3:13)

SOVEREIGN PROTECTION
Genesis 35: 1: And God said unto
Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto
God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy
brother…5: And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that
were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.
Believer, do you desire to assemble with God’s saints to worship God? God commanded Jacob to go to Bethel (the
house of God) to worship God through a sacrifice on an altar. As Jacob obeyed, God gave him divine protection
from all his enemies. When God’s
children truly desire to go to God’s house to worship Christ our Altar then we need
not fear that anyone or anything will prevent us from doing so. God sovereignly rules all things, including
the hearts of men. He has already given
his Son for his people. “He that spared
not his own Son but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him
freely give us all things.” (Rom 8: 32)
God has a hedge around his people, commanding our enemies, “Touch not
mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm” (1 Chr 16: 22). For those desiring to
honor God’s Son, he is able to put terror on all the cities round about us so
that none pursue us. “When a man’s ways please the Lord, he maketh even his
enemies to be at peace with him” (Pro 16: 7).
