WHEN IS A MAN TRULY SAVED

But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb, and called me by his grace” (Galatians 1:15).

Someone asked, "When is a man truly saved?" Well, my friend, to be saved is more than just believing in one God; the demons believe even that! It is more than just trembling under the preaching of the Word; Felix did that! It is more than holding an office in the church; Judas did that! It is more than submitting to the ordinance of baptism; Simon Magus did that! It is more than weeping over sin; Esau did that! It is more than just respecting the preacher; Herod did that! It is more than keeping company with outstanding believers; Demas did that!

To be saved is to know God and Jesus Christ, whom He hath sent. It is to be a new creature in Christ Jesus, regenerated and converted by the power of God. It is to believe on Christ with the heart and confess Christ with the mouth. It is a miracle of deliverance accomplished through the preaching of the gospel and the work of God's Spirit.

So when will a man be saved?

1.) He will be saved when it pleases the Lord (Gal. 1:15).

2.) He will be saved when he bows to, and comes under the authority of, the Lord Jesus! (Rom. 10:9-10.)

3.) He will be saved when he sees the redemptive glory of God in the face of Christ Jesus. (II Cor. 4:5-6).

4.) He will be saved when he can see the guilt of his sins before God and the sufficiency there is in Christ's life and death to provide him a perfect righteousness and a just atonement (II Cor. 5:21). Pastor Henry Mahan

This wonderful 19th Century has become a child and put away manly things. Charles Spurgeon (We can say this about this 21st century!)

Good deeds do not make a heart pure or a conscience good; God alone does this work by creating a new heart and purging the conscience with Christ’s blood. Christ said, “Make the tree good, and his fruit good;…make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt.” (Mt 12: 33)

Some make the excuse that they do not read the Bible because there is so much in it that they do not understand.  There are also a bunch of bones in chicken that you cannot eat. But you do not reject a good meal of southern fried chicken just because you cannot eat the bones.

An old man, who was accustomed to catching trout in a certain stream, was asked by one who had been fishing in vain, “Have you caught any fish today?” “Yes, Sir,” he said, “I have a little basketful.” “Oh!” said the other, “I have been fishing all day long, and I have taken none.” “No,” said the man, “but there are three rules about catching trout, which, Perhaps you have not observed. The first is—Get quite out of sight; and the second is—Get still more out of sight, and the third is—Get still more out of sight than that; and you will catch them so.” And I believe that it is just so in preaching. If the preacher can get quite out of sight, and still more out of sight, and yet still more out of sight, then he will be the means of bringing souls to Christ.  Unknown

God draws nigh in the Word. Do we know what it is to read the Bible in the original? It does not mean in Hebrew or Greek. God speaks neither Hebrew nor Greek. This is the original language of Scripture –the love of God to the soul: “I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with loving-kindness have I drawn thee.” And all God’s vocabulary is summed up in Jesus –Alpha and Omega, He is the Word. When God takes the written Word back from the paper into His own mouth, then we read the original; then it is again God- breathed, and the word which cometh out of His mouth shall not return void—Adolph Saphir

1 Cor 14: 31…that all may learn, and all may be edified.

This is the reason God commands the worship service be conducted orderly, with clear preaching—“that all may learn and all may be comforted.” That is the rule we are to operate by in everything we say and do, in the service, even in our daily lives. If what I say or do toward my brethren does not edify but tears them down, if it hurts rather than comforts, then I should not say or do it. Being truthful does not mean we are to be hurtful. “Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.” (Col 4: 6) If something needs to be corrected for a believer’s benefit find a way that is helpful not hurtful, kind not degrading. Remember, not everything is so important that it has to be corrected. Seldom are opinions needed. God will grow his people. Trust God.

BY HIS KNOWLEDGE

Isaiah 53: 11…by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

“By his knowledge” is the knowledge, skill and cunning Christ alone possesses by which he accomplished the whole work to justify his people.

From eternity, Christ is Wisdom who had knowledge of God the Father and his will of glorifying his name in the redemption of a particular people. (Pro 8: 23, 30-31; Is 42: 1; 49: 3) So when Christ walked this earth, he said, “I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me.” (Jn 7: 29; 8: 55; Mt 11: 27; Jn 6: 38-40)

As Christ walked this earth, prophecy was fulfilled which said, “The spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.” (Isa 11:2-5; Lu 2: 47; Jn 7: 15, 46) By his knowledge, Christ overcame Satan’s temptations and the snaring attempts by self-made religious leaders.

Then on the cross, by his knowledge, Christ would not be turned from waiting on the Father’s promise as he upheld the righteousness of God by his obedience unto death. By his knowledge, Christ presented himself spotless, to have the iniquities of his people laid on him and divine wrath poured out on him.  By his knowledge, Christ endured separation on the cross satisfying divine justice and justifying many. (Ex 34: 7; Rom 5: 9; Is 45: 25)

Christ is God’s righteous servant. Mercy and justice embrace each other in Christ the Wisdom of God. This is why when God makes Christ all unto his child, the first thing Christ is made unto us is Wisdom!  Then our so-called knowledge becomes ignorance.

BUT THEY FEARED GOD

Exodus 1: 17: But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.

Brethren, every sinner redeemed by Christ owe so much to these two women. Had they obeyed Pharaoh, Christ would not have been born and redeemed us. Do you see how important it is to continue in faith and love trusting Christ to save us from every evil! Let us follow their example. Obey God by obeying the powers that be so long as their command is “in the Lord.” (Rom 13)  But if their command is not honoring to God, fear God alone, not men!

God commands, “Say ye not, A confederacy, to all them to whom this people shall say, A confederacy; neither fear ye their fear, nor be afraid. Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread. And he shall be for a sanctuary.” (Is 8: 12-14)
