A God called preacher preaches the true Gospel without concern of losing his congregation. His concern is for the lost that are in his congregation.

                                                                                 Pastor David Eddmenson

Acts 2: 24: Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.

By his resurrection from the dead our Savior abolished death (v. 24). He abolished the penal aspect of death for his people. He abolished its power, its terror, and its fears for all who believe (Heb. 2:15). The resurrection of Christ was God's public declaration that justice has been satisfied for his people's sins (Rom. 4:25-5:1).  Pastor Don Fortner (from his commentary “Life after Pentecost”; soon to be republished as “Discovering Christ in Acts.”)

James 1:17: Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

Eternal life is a gift from God through and in Christ Jesus his Son. It is impossible to read the scriptures without acknowledging that eternal life is a gift of God. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Rom 6:23) “And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.” (1 Jn 5: 11-12)

GOD’S GIFT

God’s gift of eternal life is like our gift giving in at least three ways.

First, when we give a gift we give it to whomsoever we will. Likewise, God gives eternal life to whomsoever he will. (Jn 17: 1-2; 9, 24) Suppose you gave a gift to someone you love and strangers began to accuse you of being unjust because you did not give them the same gift.  You would think they were absurd.  They have no right to question you or accuse you.  Neither does any sinner have a right to question God. (Rom 9: 14-21)

Secondly, when we give a gift we purchase it ourselves.  Likewise, God sent his Son who paid the purchase price of his precious blood to give his people eternal life in him. (Lev 17:11; Heb 9: 22; Acts 20: 28)  Then he is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.” (Job 33: 24)

Lastly, when we give a gift we give it to the one for whom we purchased it.  Likewise, God irresistibly creates his people anew and gives the gift of eternal life to us through faith in Christ.  We do not purchase a gift then sit on a shelf and hope someone will come claim it as their own. We take the gift to the one for whom we bought it and make sure they get it. So does God. But here is a difference.  When we give a gift the person to whom we give it has the ability to receive our gift. But each sinner to whom God shall give this free gift of eternal life does not even have the ability to receive it until God even gives faith and repentance to receive this gift in his Son.   (Jn 3: 5; Jn 6:53; Eph 2:8; Gal 4: 4-6)

When we receive a gift we are thankful and express our gratitude to the giver. So we do to Christ.  What would we think of someone who received a gift from us which we paid a great sum to purchase, which we gave freely to them, only to have them go about telling everyone that they earned that gift or deserved that gift or worked for that gift or that we are unjust not to give the same gift to everyone?  Believers glory in the LORD, giving all the praise only to God, telling everyone we can about the great gift Giver and the gift of his Son. (2 Cor 9:11, 8-15) “Give thanks unto the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people.” (1 Chr 16: 8)

HE SHALL SEE HIS SEED

Isaiah 53: 10: Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

Every sinner must and shall suffer the eternal vengeance of holy justice.  But by God’s sovereign grace, it pleased the LORD to bruise Christ in the place of chosen sinners. Thus, he satisfied his own justice and justified us from our sins—“it pleased God to bruise him.”  (Rom 3: 26; Is 42: 21; Lev 16: 22; Heb 8: 12; 10: 17) Then we are told “he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days.”

First, God the Father saw his Seed—his only begotten Son, Christ Jesus—and prolonged his days. The great cross work of our Mediator magnifies the Son’s preeminent love and honor of God his Father.  It shows his willingness and preeminent desire to glorify his Father because to go to the cross he had to humble himself to be made the very least. But “He that is least among you all, the same shall be great.” Lu 9: 48) God the Father saw his Son and said, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” (Mt 17: 5)  So we read, “he prolonged his days.”  God raised him from the dead, also highly exalting his Son to be Head over every name that is named and to be Head over his body the church.  (Eph 1: 21-23)

Secondly, Christ shall see all his seed who he redeemed by his blood brought to faith in him and their days prolonged to eternal life. A large family is counted a great blessing, even greater to live to see your children’s children. As promised by the Father in the covenant of redemption, Christ shall see his seed. He has always seen them from eternity when they were chosen in him. (Jn 1: 47) Christ saw them risen in him when he arose the third day and then to God’s right hand. (Hos 6:2; Eph 2:5-6) He redeemed us for the purpose of seeing us born again and he shall. (Ps 22:30-31; Gal 3: 13-14; 4: 4-5; Eph 1: 5) At last, Christ shall see all his seed brought to glory by his omnipotent hand and presented faultless to the Father. (2 Cor 4: 14; Eph 5: 27)
