Luke 22: 30: That ye may eat and drink at my table
in my kingdom,…
The season of large tables full of food, family and friends reveals much
about us. At one table there are those
who are happy because they got what they wanted, their loved ones are
home. Then there are those who are sad because
they miss a loved one. One is angry at someone at the table because some
trivial misstep did not suit them that day or they remember something from
years gone by. Another is secretly jealous
of someone at the table because of some temporal object they possess. The cook is usually cumbered about much
serving worried how the food will turn out. Everyone in the room is talking at
one time but no one is really listening to anyone but their own voice. Still,
as dysfunctional as family gatherings can be most of us look forward to them
and love to gather with family.
Yet,
one day every believer shall be gathered together with the whole family of God
by Christ Jesus our Head. This gathering will be of those our God and Savior
has loved from everlasting. Each one will be perfect and perfectly accepted of
God by the eternal redemption accomplished by Christ Jesus with his own blood. We will be so accepted that we will sit at
Christ’s table in Christ’s kingdom and he will serve us. (Lu 12: 37) There will be no sorrow, jealousy,
covetousness, worry or sin of any kind.
None will be absent; none will be greater or lesser than another; all
shall be one in righteousness in the Lord our Righteousness. In that day none
of the things that beset us now will be of concern. All eyes and ears will be focused on our everlasting
Father. That will be a true holiday!
