WHAT “GOOD NEWS”!!!
The doctrines we preach and love are
not mere teachings of some particular method or plan, but the doctrines of
Christ, who is our gospel; Christ, who is sovereign over all flesh; Christ,
whose grace is both sovereign and free. Not to preach a sovereign Christ, is to
preach another Christ. To preach another Christ is to preach another gospel
(which is not another, Gal. 1:6-9). It is just that simple. Mark it down: you cannot separate Christ from
the gospel or the gospel from Christ, for they are one and the same. And Christ is sovereign over all things and
over all flesh, giving life freely to whom He will. The message of life for
poor guilty sinners is the message of the Christ of God, who saves sovereignly
and freely, even the chief of sinners! Maurice

NOT ASHAMED OF THE GOSPEL
Romans 1: 16:
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto
salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
17: For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it
is written, The just shall live by faith.
Paul
knew by experience that the gospel is the power by which God calls his chosen to
Christ because he experienced it on the Damascus Road when the Gospel himself
called him. The Power of the gospel is Christ. He is the very Power denied by
those with a form of godliness. (Rom 2: 20)
In Power, as Christ is preached in the gospel, Christ “casts down imaginations, and every
high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and brings into
captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” (2 Cor 10: 5)
Furthermore,
Christ is the Salvation to whom God brings us by the preaching of the gospel. The
preaching of the gospel is the preaching of Salvation: who Christ is, why
Christ came, what Christ accomplished, where Christ is now, what Christ is and shall
do. (Rom 1: 1-5) Christ our Salvation keeps us unto the day our salvation is
complete, and Christ does so, through the preaching of the gospel. “It pleased
God by the foolishness of preaching to save”—from the first hour to the last—“them
that believe.”
Moreover, Christ is the Righteousness revealed in the preaching of the
gospel. By revelation, God makes known in our hearts that the law has been
honored and magnified for God and his elect, not by our obedience, but by the
faithfulness of Jesus Christ by his perfect obedience unto the death of the
cross. He reveals that our sin is put away, we are justified, and that Christ himself
is our Righteousness. Brethren, we have been made the righteousness of God in
Christ.
Lastly, when this good news is revealed “from faith to faith”, it is from
Christ the Faithful One that it is revealed to the faith of that child whom he
has gifted to believe. By Christ, our faith is grown.
This is why Christ’s preachers are not ashamed of the Gospel; this is
why we are determined to know nothing among you save Jesus Christ and him
crucified.

UNGODLINESS AND UNRIGHTEOUSNESS OF MEN
Romans 1: 18: For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all
ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
The truth is Christ; the truth is that Christ is the Righteousness of
God; the truth is that Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to
everyone who believes. (Jn 14: 6; Rom 10: 3-4)
Therefore, those who know the truth, yet mix law and grace, break both
tables of the law. To hold the truth in unrighteousness is called “the ungodliness
and unrighteousness of men.” “Ungodliness” refers to the first table of the law
which is against God. (Ex 20: 3-5) “Unrighteousness” refers to the second table
of the law which is against man. (Ex 20:
12-17) He breaks the first table by
setting up man as God, worshipping and serving the creature more than the
Creator; he breaks the second table by transgressing against man to whom he
preaches: spiritually he dishonors, murders, commits adultery, steals, bears
false witness and makes merchandise of their souls through covetousness.
Worst of all, because he turns from Christ, who is both GOD and MAN, his
breaking of the first table is against Christ who is God and his breaking of
the second table is against Christ who is Man.

THE SECRET OF GOOD
PREACHING
1. My subject is
always the Lord Jesus.
2. My proof of
truth is the written Word of God.
3. My method is
always “Preach the Word and leave the results, whatever they may be, to our
Lord!” A.D.
