DO NOT BE LIKE JUDAS
ISCARIOT
Judas Iscariot was very religious. He had a good name
– Judas meaning “God Is Praised”. He evidently had a favorable
upbringing, being raised an Israelite and taught the things of God from
earliest youth. He lived according to the Law of Moses, trying to keep its
commandments, observing its sabbaths, and abstaining from its “unclean” foods.
He believed many truths regarding Jesus Christ, professed to be His disciple, was
baptized, joined himself to the church, had a high position in that church, observed
the first Lord’s Supper, then died and went to hell.
Let us learn from Judas two
important truths.
First: Nothing in Judas’ favor or that he did – nor
all these things together – will result in the salvation of the soul. Hell will
be thickly populated by such people.
Second: The
salvation of the soul results from the vital thing that Judas did not do –
repent of sins and trust in the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. None who do so
will be found in hell.

like Judas Iscariot! Pastor Daniel E Parks

BY THE GRACE OF GOD I AM WHAT I AM
A believer should
never (in false humility) deny having the gifts that God has given them.
A believer should also never (in false pride) act like they are better by
nature than anyone else. “By the grace of God I am what I am.” (I
Cor. 15:10) The reason we have everything we have is God’s grace. If you
believe God it is only by the gift of God’s grace that He gave you faith.
If you know God it is only because of the gift of God’s grace that He revealed
Himself to you. If you love God it is only by the gift of God’s grace that
God loved you first. If you persevere to the end it is only by the gift
of God’s grace that He kept you. A believer should be known as a person
thankful for and dependent upon God’s grace. Let us never be guilty of
pride of grace. “For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast
thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou
glory, as if thou hadst not received it?” (I Cor 4:7) Pastor

THE SPIRIT WHICH IS
OF GOD
“Now we have
received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God…” (1 Cor
2: 12)
What a gift! Every born-again child of God has been given
a new spirit which is of God. That means
sinners have nothing to do with giving ourselves this new spirit. We could not create it nor educate ourselves
into having it. God gave it to us by his
grace. It is “the spirit which is of
God.” Sinners are given this new
spirit when we are born-again of the Holy Spirit as God said, “I will give
them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you.” (Eze 11: 19) It is given because we are children of
God. It is the Spirit of God’s own Son
which makes us cry out to God as our Father—"because ye are sons, God
hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.”
(Gal 4: 6) In this new spirit we are
one with Christ—"he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit” (1 Cor
6:17). What a gift!

THAT WE MIGHT KNOW
“Now we have
received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God that we might know…” (1 Cor 2: 12)
This “knowing” is not
only an understanding of the truth but it is God making us “receive the love
of the truth.” (2 Th 2:10) The “spirit
of the world” loves darkness and hates light. (Jn 3: 19-20; Rom 8: 7) But
when God gives a new spirit, “the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts
by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” (Rom 5: 5) Thereby, God causes
us to receive the love of the truth.

THE THINGS FREELY
GIVEN
“…that we might know the things that are freely given
to us of God.” (1 Cor 2: 12)
What are these things freely given to us
of God? “All things are yours.” (1
Cor 3: 21) “And all things are of God.” (2 Cor 5: 18) Is salvation freely
given to us of God? Is faith freely
given to us of God? Yes! “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that
not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.” (Eph 2: 8) Is justification freely given to us of
God? We are “justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in
Christ Jesus.” (Rom 3: 24) God gives the fountain of the water of life
freely (Rev 21: 6) Eternal life is God’s
free gift through Christ Jesus our Lord. (Rom 6:23; 1 Jn 5: 11) Everything that pertains to life and
godliness is a free gift of God to the believer. As Paul asked “what hast thou that didst
not receive?” (1 Cor 4:7)
But remember, things free to us cost
Christ the price of his precious blood. Our Substitute paid everything we owed so
that God can give freely to us in harmony with justice. Therefore, to those for whom Christ died God’s
gifts are "without money and without price." (Is 55: 1; Rev
21: 6; Rom 6: 23; 1 Jn 5: 11)
Oh, rejoice brethren, for “He that
spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with
him also freely give us all things?” (Rom 8:32)
